Sunshine Coast cheerleading group MDC has worked hard for 12 months to qualify for the Olympics of cheerleading, only to be left stunned by the collapse of Air Australia. What is even more frustrating is these athletes and their families were required to part with their final fund-raised money on Thursday night, just 12 hours prior to Air Australia grounding their fleet.
“There needs to be a reform of this industry to protect consumers” said Peter Slipper.
While the ethical and legal battles continue, the possibility of recovering the $70,000 paid after a year of fund-raising and practice seems dim, as do the hopes of these accomplised athletes unless a sponsor or sponsors can be found.
If you know a company or individual who can help MDC fultill their dreams of competing in the Aloha Championships, please send an email to: Peter.Slipper.MP@aph.gov.au
Politics and parliament don’t usually draw smirks and giggles from nine and ten-year-olds, but a mock parliament at Beerburrum State School did just that.
